Moonlit Lip Masks - Wake Up Smiling

While chatting with my sister the other day, she mentioned that she had just purchased a lip mask from Korea and that I should make one. I get approached with ideas all of the time. I always appreciate people thinking of me and wanting me to create a natural version of their favorites. I’m not opposed to new ideas, but I am opposed to creating products just to make a bit of cash. I pride myself on making quality products that you buy because you not only trust me to make a natural, organic product, but because they work for your needs.

I currently have no need for a lip mask, but maybe you do. I’ve been researching not only great options to create a mask, but the why behind needing one. Just like your skin, your lips are susceptible to aging, as collagen production depletes leaving your lips thin with less plump. These masks gently exfoliate your lips promoting collagen production and change the way that your lips look and feel. I have a recipe that I am currently testing, but until then, I have a couple of simple solutions that you can do at home.

You’ve noticed that the theme of these blog posts is using ingredients that are common in most kitchens. This one is no different! These masks are two ingredients and commonly found on your shelves or in your refrigerator.

Yogurt & Honey - yogurt helps soften the skin and honey hydrates and exfoliates, together creating an amazing, effective mask. Mix one teaspoon greek yogurt with one teaspoon honey (preferably manuka) and apply to lips in a thin layer. Keep on lips overnight and gently massage off with water and a small amount of sugar in the morning.

Brown Sugar & Olive Oil - brown sugar works as an exfoliate to slough off the dry skin, in addition to increasing blood circulation and olive oil hydrates and repairs. Mix one tablespoon brown sugar with one teaspoon olive oil. Apply to lips and gently scrub in a circular motion for five minutes. Rinse clean and follow up with your favorite lip balm.

For the best results, apply a lip mask once a week and alternate these masks each week. Easy to make, easy to use. Wake up with new bright, plump, full lips!
